About Us

Two travelers who refused to wait

We’re Jim and Rhonda Delameter. We left 25 years of corporate cubicles to build a life around travel, and now we help people like you do the same.

Our Story

Citizens of the world, on purpose

We are Jim and Rhonda Delameter, 50ish, married citizens of the world on a path to rewrite what society considers normal and create a life less ordinary.

Having spent 25+ years in corporate cubicles, we knew this wasn’t life as we wished to lead it. In 2007 we set out on a round-the-world trip, backpacking through over 20 countries on five continents. It was an epic adventure that changed us immeasurably and irreversibly.

The Long Road South

We pointed the truck toward Patagonia

In 2015 we turned our truck south on a plan to drive the Pan-American Highway to Patagonia. We spent nearly a year in Mexico and fell deeply in love with it, then pivoted home to Oregon when family called.

We became workampers in Idaho, managed a campground, and wintered in Mexico five months a year. Plans change. The point was never the destination, it was refusing to stay put.

Where We Are Now

Thailand, Latin America, and whatever is next

These days you’ll find us in Thailand and across Latin America, with an Oregon base to come home to. Thirty years in, the travel still teaches us something new on every trip.

What we feel to the very core of our being is the overwhelming need to live our one precious life to the fullest extent possible. That’s the whole idea behind The Next Big Adventure.

Why We Do This

Life is happening right now

We have had close family members leave this earth too young, and we are determined not to wait for retirement or the perfect moment.

We don’t want to work 9 to 5, 40 hours a week, and spend two thirds of our life in a cubicle. We want to live now, while we are healthy enough to climb the hill and curious enough to want to.

People ask if it’s safe to travel the way we do. In 30 years of travel, we have experienced firsthand that the situation flashed across headlines is rarely what we find on the ground. The world is kinder, and more open, than the news would have you believe.

Hopefully, we’ll meet many of you along the way and inspire everyone to step outside their comfort zone to make each day memorable.
